“Imagine if someone told you that in 3 days time, the world would separate into two new planets. On one planet would be only selfish people. On the other planet would be only selfless people. Which planet would you want to be on?”
Consider the messages of Buddha and the messages of Jesus…. messages of Love, compassion, humility, inner peace and purity of heart. These messages are deeply important to all of us – not just to think about and preach to others – but more importantly to experience for ourselves, to feel within and embody fully.
For example, it may be comforting knowing that “the kingdom of heaven is within”, but we have to go there. We must go within. If we don’t go there, then where are we? We are obviously not in heaven!
If we want to go there (and who would not want to exist in a heavenly state?) we must choose to do so with our actions, not just our thoughts. We must ensure that loving intentions are the guiding force in our life, so that everything we do, say and think is deeply imbued with the energy of love.
You could call this a kind of purification of our life, because as love replaces the ego and all it’s selfish and underhand motives, we become transparent and clear, like a flow of crystal clear water, a beautiful waterfall.
This is purity of heart – unmuddied by the pollution of selfish thought. If such thoughts arise within our mind, including thoughts of judgment – of rightness and wrongness about others or about ourselves – we should not to believe what they are saying to us.
It’s a little bit like the snake in the garden of Eden, whispering selfish ideas into the ear of Eve, telling her “Put yourself first… Satisfy your own desires… Please yourself…” The apple she tastes creates the desire for knowledge, innocence is lost and the ego is born.
It is symbolic, but we all need to return to our innate state of grace, to our place in the Garden, to the innocence, sanctity and selflessness of our heart.
The heart does not entertain thoughts of taking and wanting, like the ego does. It is totally preoccupied with giving. For this reason, we should be wise and use our life as an exercise in giving, an exercise in selflessness, as this is what aligns us and connects us with the kingdom of heaven, the infinite realm of peace, light, and love within our heart. It is the only way to return to Eden, by giving yourself in service to Love. Helping others, caring for others, giving to those in need, without desire for reward or recompense. It is what we are here to do.
It is selfish thought that is the greatest cause of weakness in our lives. As a result, the mind grows strong and forceful, while the hearts innocent desire to give and share unconditionally is oppressed. Thus the heart is weakened, and selfish thought dominates. This can easily be reversed though, because in any moment we can stop thinking about ourself, and do something selfless instead.
Imagine if someone told you that in 3 days time, the world would separate into two new planets. On one planet would be only selfish people. On the other planet would be only selfless people. Which planet would you want to be on?
