You have a choice of consciousness, which means you have a choice of reality. All people on earth are free to experience what they believe to be true, but ultimately, there is only one real Truth, and that is Divine Truth. The good news is that nothing is required of you to experience Divine Truth, because whether you believe in it or not, like the Sun, it still shines.
So how can you become aware of Divine Truth? Most people already know the answer to this question, but because we live in a consumerist society we hope that we can just push a button, or pay for a weekend retreat and then Truth will be revealed, ours for the keeping.
But the reality is that discipline is needed to remain within the parameters of the Divine realm. This is why Jesus’ followers were called disciples; they were required to be disciplined.
For so long our mind has had free rein to wander in and out of whatever thoughts it pleases. Often hostile, judgmental and aggressive thoughts are allowed to take grip of the mind and emotions, often leading to hostile behavior. This is why discipline is needed, because if we wish to live in a world of peace, then each one of us must now take full responsibility for being a peaceful human. This means keeping the mind focused on Truth, keeping the heart open to Love, keeping the emotions calm and tranquil, whilst simultaneously allowing our energy to flow unrestricted, without barriers or fears. This takes discipline.
And so the way to live in the presence of Truth is live a disciplined and healthy life, enriched by selfless service of those who are less fortunate than us, guided by daily spiritual practice such as meditation or yoga, in order to keep our minds connected to the Light, the Source of our consciousness, lest it be diverted by the allure of the illusory and empty world of desires and personal gratification, an endless merry-go-round, devoid of true fulfillment.
This does not mean we should not enjoy what pleasure life provides for us, but we should not get lost in the desire for them. If we can keep as our focus the desire to love, commune with and serve the Divine, we will be fulfilling our purpose on earth, in deep gratitude and endless wonderment.
